This is the story behind the logo (as seen above) for our website. I wanted the logo to be uniquely ours and reflect what the MCT8 Organization means to us.
So I put together some ideas of what MCT8 is and how to show we are a support group as well. So I started with these designs:
- A circle: to represent the globe, and to show that this MCT8 condition is world wide.
- The butterfly in the circle: The butterfly represents the thyroid (MCT8 is partly a thyroid condition), but I wanted it to be unique so I thought of the DNA strand for the butterfly's body to show that this condition is genetically linked.
- The people around the globe with hearts in between: to show that we are a world wide support group and we are families helping families.
I put it all together and asked the approval of Lisa Davis to see if she liked my idea for our website logo, and she said yes.
I was not happy with my artistic ability (I was being hard on myself). So I took my logo to my son Jonathan's elementary school. There at St. Luke Elementary School I asked the vice principal if she could help me. I told her I was looking for some talented Grade 8 students who would like to volunteer their time & talent in re-creating my logo into a work of art. The Vice Principal was confident and said leave it to her and she would present my case to the classes.
To my delight the students were happy to help. About two weeks later she gave me a handful of beautiful art work. There is a lot of talent coming out of the grade 8 classrooms at St. Luke Elementary School; so much so, that I could not decide on just one by myself. So I decided to invite some friends and family over and we did an art judging contest. We were finally able to narrow it down to one picture.
We all liked how the student extended the butterfly's wings just outside of the globe and the way everything was shaded in. The student kept my idea, but added his/her own artistic flare to it. This student's picture seemed so mature and it was just what we were looking for to represent our website and support group. So thank you so much to that very special grade 8 student. You know who you are. I will not state the student's name to protect his/her identity.
Thank you to all the grade 8 students of St. Luke Elementary School who participated and helped me with this art project. It was greatly appreciated. Some of you personalized your pictures to Jonathan, and those I will frame for him and hang in his room. Also thank you to the vice principal for all your help and kindness.
God bless all of you.
Sincerely
